MovieFinder is not like your traditional DVD Collection software. Instead of simply being a database management type program that just stores DVD information like actors, and cover art it takes the collection concept to the next level, not only cataloging your collection but helping you “find” what you want to watch.
By default MovieFinder supports all the common video medial like DVD, Blu-ray and VHS. You can also add additional media formats for movies that are on VCD or your hard drive.
MovieFinder’s emphisis isn’t exactly on organizing your DVD collection, although it can serve that purpose, it is designed to help you find which movie you would like to watch.
Using the Genre Searcher you can sort your DVDs by multiple genres and quickly your list will whittle to exactly what you want. We tried, musical, crime, drama and our result was the movie “Chicago.” It was perfect.
Sadly, we wish the rest of the software ran as smooth. Importing movies automatically is a bit cumbersome because it can only query IMDB by title and there is no way to preview your entry before you upload all of its data. Additionally, after you submit your movie to be added to your DVD collection the software doesn’t take you to that title, nor does it acknowledge that your import was successful.
We are a bit hesitant about uploading TV series using MovieFinder. Since you can’t search by barcode, and the software imports information from IMDB you can’t specify series seasons.
Although MovieFinder includes cover art for each of your movies you cannot search by thumbnail. Movies are only available in list format.
We found that although MovieFinder doesn’t specifically have parental controls you can lock your database.
